Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes and relationship of social anxiety symptoms, positive and negative self-views during cognitive behavior group therapy for social anxiety disorder (SAD). All of 40 subjects who diagnosed with SAD through structured interviews participated in this study. Social anxiety symptoms and the self-views were measured before treatment, after 4 weeks, after 8 weeks, and after treatment. The results showed that social anxiety symptoms and the negative self-view were significantly decreased, and the positive self-view was significantly increased during the treatment. The negative self-view decreased significantly at the early stage of treatment, but the positive self-view increased at the later stage of treatment. The negative self-view was significantly correlated with the reduction of social anxiety symptoms, but the positive self-view was not. In addition, there was no significant relationship between the negative self-view and the positive self-view. The implications of these results are discussed and suggestions for future research were suggested.
